EPWORTH, Iowa - Irene M. Casey, 94, of Epworth, died at 12:50 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2009, at Luther Manor, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Epworth, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Placid. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 13, at Reiff Funeral Home, Epworth, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

She was born on Feb. 10, 1915, in Peosta, daughter of Robert and Rachel (O'Regan) Connolly. She was a graduate of the former St. John the Baptist High School, Peosta.

Irene taught in the rural country schools prior to her marriage.

She married Melvin V. Casey on Aug. 20, 1940, at Holy Family Catholic Church in New Melleray, rural Peosta; he preceded her in death on May 21, 1992.

Irene was a member of St. Patrick's Parish in Epworth.

Surviving are three children, Donna (Kenneth) Nauman, Mary (Wayne) Beitzel and Robert (Mary Jane) Casey, all of Epworth; a daughter-in-law, Julie Casey, of Epworth; 29 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Mary Catherine Connolly, of Cascade.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Joseph Casey, on March 17, 1945, and Donald Casey, on Nov. 9, 2002; two brothers, Harold and Joseph Connolly; and a sister, Florence Connolly, in infancy.

An Irene M. Casey Memorial Fund has been established.
