Joseph A. Connolly, 84, of 3391 Crescent Ridge, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at The Finley Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Nativity Catholic Church, with burial in St. John's Cemetery, Placid, rural Epworth, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Siegert-Didesch Colonial Funeral Home, 390 N. Grandview Ave., where there will be a wake service at 5 p.m.

Mr. Connolly farmed his entire life in the Temple Hill, Cascade, and Placid areas.

He was born on Aug. 14, 1917, of Epworth, son of William and Mary Anthoine Connolly. He married Ruth Wilkinson on June 3, 1946, at St. John's Placid, rural Epworth.

He was a World War II Army veteran. He moved to Dubuque in 1983. He was a member of Nativity Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, Cascade. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth, of Dubuque; three daughters, Carol Connolly and Helen (Leo) Kennedy, both of Dubuque, and Linda (Randy) Liegel, of Loganville, Wis.; three sons, Gary (Julie) Connolly and Roger Connolly, both of Epworth, and Mark Connolly, of Dubuque; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer Kennedy (and her fiance, Brad Franzwa), Joseph (Alana) Kennedy, Shannon Kennedy, Ann Kennedy, Kari Connolly, J.J. Connolly, Alicia Connolly, Melissa Liegel, Ryan Liegel and Tara Liegel; a sister, Loyola Wagner, of Dubuque; three brothers, Wilbert (Marion) Connolly and Marvin (Betty) Connolly, both of Dubuque, and Frank (Ardella) Connolly, of Epworth; a sister-in-law, Dawn Strief, of Hawkeye, Iowa, and a brother-in-law, Richard Burds (and his fiance, Carmen Myhre), of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Merlin; and two sisters, Marie Huber and Lorraine Connolly.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at The Finley Hospital Intensive Care Unit.
