FARLEY, Iowa -- Gertrude A. Urbain, 88, of Farley, died at 9:20 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at her daughter's home in Monmouth, surrounded by her family.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Farley, with the Rev. Michael Schueller officiating. Burial will be in

St. John's Cemetery, Placid. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Farley, where the Farley American Legion Auxiliary will meet at 6:30 p.m., the Farley American Legion will meet at 7 p.m. and a wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

She was born on Feb. 17,1924, in Farley, daughter of Bernard and Frances (Muller) Klostermann. She received her education in Bankston and Farley area schools. She also graduated from Dubuque Beauty Academy.

She married Earl M. Urbain on May 5,1947, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley; he preceded her in death on Feb. 16,1986.

She owned and operated Gertie's Beauty Shop for many years.

Gertie enjoyed several hobbies, including quilting, bowling, playing cards, bingo and crocheting.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Parish in Farley and a member of the Farley American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving are nine children, Sue Ann (Gilbert) Beringer, of Dyersville, Bernie (Mary) Urbain and Robert (Jean) Urbain, both of Farley, Judy (Dave) Koppes, of Monmouth, Mark (Julie) Urbain, of Farley, Nancy (John) Kramer, of Worthington, Jeff (Sandy) Urbain, of Peosta, Wanda (Dave) Roberts, of Omaha, Neb., and Sarah (Tim) Ells, of Davenport; 31 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Donna) Klostermann, of Farley; a sister, Anna Jean Drees and friend, Ray Schmuecker, of Dyersville; a brother-in-law, Anselm Willenborg, of Dyersville; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Urbain, of Farley.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary Jane Klostermann, in infancy; a grandson, David Urbain; and a great-granddaughter, Layna Meiers.
