Cascade Pioneer, Published in Cascade, Iowa on Friday, August 30th, 1895

Silas Moore, living about a half a mile from Epworth, is a heavy loser by a peculiar fire last Tuesday. He had his oats and barley stacked for threshing and on Tuesday morning, Nat Bradfield, with his steam thresher, went to work and threshed all day. About five o’clock in the evening fire was discovered in one of the oats stacks and in a very short time several stacks of oats, barley and hay, and the straw of the oats threshed was destroyed. About 800 to 1,000 bushels of oats were consumed, worth about $500. In addition to this Mr. Moore loses the straw that would be very valuable, owing to the scarcity of hay, in feeding stock.
