Michael "Mike" Scott Schrader

Michael "Mike" Scott Schrader, 45, of rural Burlington, Iowa, died at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at his home on the river after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born July 24, 1961 in Burlington, he was the son of Harry Glenn and Joyce Elaine Walker Schrader.

Mike was a 1979 graduate of Mediapolis High School and later graduated from Southeastern Community College. He previously owned Short Stuff's in Kingston, Iowa. He formerly worked for Holsteen and Shipley Construction Companies and Zaiser Fabrication. He currently was a heavy equipment operator for Fye Excavating. He worked on the construction of several large projects in the area including Lock and Dam No. 18 spillway, Methodist churches in Mediapolis and Sperry, and Burlington Public Library. Mike was a carpenter, farmer, a "Jack of all Trades" and "Master of All." His true love was the river and his friends. He enjoyed boating, bonfires by the river and working. Mike was a member of Kingston United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his parents, Harry and Joyce Schrader of rural Burlington; fiancée, Kris Taylor; one sister, Sheila (Bryon) Keltner of Wapello, Iowa; one brother, Craig (Julie) Schrader of Story City, Iowa; four nieces and nephews, Cole and Allison Schrader and Bryar and Kolby Keltner; and one step–niece, Savannah (Isaac) Frier.

Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. until noon Friday, May 11th, in Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 11th, in First United Methodist Church of Mediapolis. Visitation also will be on Saturday, May 12th, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

The funeral for Mike will be Saturday, May12th, at 1:30 p.m. in First United Methodist Church of Mediapolis with Pastors John Gaulke and Beth Briggs officiating. Interment will be in North Walker Cemetery, rural Burlington.

In lieu of flowers, a special memorial has been established in memory of Mike for a river project.

Everyone is invited to a time of fellowship and luncheon at the Shoquoquon Boat Club following the Committal Service at the cemetery
