Services for Daniel J. Bockenstedt, 29, 2375 Pearl St., will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church.

Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Dyersville, Iowa. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, where there will be a St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church Christian wake at 4 p.m.

Daniel was a production assistant at the Antique Trader Periodicals, Dubuque.

He was born on March 1, 1968, at Dubuque, son of Walter and Mary (Westmark) Bockenstedt. He died at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 1997, at The Finley Hospital, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile-bicycle accident on Thursday evening, Sept. 11, at South Grandview Avenue and Carmel Drive.

He grew up in Dubuque and graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1986. He then attended and graduated from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, with a bachelor of arts degree in English and a minor degree in art. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Dubuque. He was a bicycle enthusiast and was a member of the United States Cycling Federation, where he was a junior state champion, a junior Midwest regional champion and competed in numerous national championships and in the 1988 Olympic trials. He also briefly raced for the La Vie Claire French Professional Cycling Team.

Surviving are his parents, Walter and Mary (Westmark) Bockenstedt, of Dubuque; a brother, Paul J. (Catherine) Bockenstedt, of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; a sister, Ann F. Bockenstedt (her fiancee Andrew Rettenmeier), of Dubuque; and a niece, Lara Ann Bockenstedt.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Cleo and Loretta (Kluesner) Westmark; his paternal grandparents, John and Hilda (Hermsen) Bockenstedt; and an aunt, Helen Westmark.

A Daniel J. Bockenstedt Memorial Fund has been established by his family.

You are our champion, our winner. We love you for eternity and hold you in our hearts all of our living days. You will be missed by your family and friends. You will be cherished for eternity. Godspeed Daniel - so long for now, but not good-bye.
