Bernard C. "Ben" Kurth, 87, a resident of the River Valley vicinity for many years has passed away at his home 2 miles north west of Hopkinton Saturday evening, June 25, following several years illness.
Born at Zinzow, Germany, Sept. 1, 1862 he came to America with his parents, Bernard and Lena Frederick Kurth, when seven years of age and settled on a farm north west of Hopkinton. He was one of a family of twelve children, only four sons reached maturity.
He married Augusta Gienapp, March 22, 1889 and they spent all their married life on a farm in the River Valley vicinity.
Mrs. Kurth passed away June 17, 1945. Since then he has been tenderly cared for by a daughter Emma.
Besides this daughter, two other daughters Anna Kurth and Mrs. Fred Benter, all of Hopkinton, mourn the passing of their father. Five grand children and two great grandchildren, two brothers Albert Kurth of Coggon and Wm. Kurth of Mechanicsville, also survive.
Funeral services were held at St. John's Lutheran church, Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. Rev. H. A. Diers officiated. Burial was in the Hopkinton cemetery.
Pallbearers were R. W. Reggentine, R. F. Gienapp. Paul Gienapp Sr., R. B. Bradke, Andy Smith and Nick Mesch.
