W. Arthur DeVries, son of John B. DeVries and Ella (Vanderflught) DeVries, was born June 10, 1894, on a farm south of Lamoni, and departed this life about noon Saturday, April 13, 1968, at his home near Kellerton, Iowa, at the age of 73 years, 11 months, and three days.

His childhood, formal schooling, and early manhood were spent in Decatur county around the Lamoni vicinity.

He was united in marriage to Bonnie L. Hyatt in Mt. Ayr, Iowa, on Oct. 5, 1914. To this union two children were born, M. Lorine (Mrs. Carl Warrick), Grand River, and A. Hyatt, Ft. Crook, Neb.

In the 1920s the family of four were baptized and united with the Christian church in Kellerton. Arthur spent over 25 years as a hard worker on his farms in Decatur and Ringgold counties.

On May 28, 1937, he was united in marriage to Ethyle M. Mitchel George at Troy, Kan. Their residence for the past 21 years has been on a farm north of Kellerton where he managed the farm until ill health the past few years.

Arthur tried to be a good father, husband, and neighbor and will be sadly missed by the family and friends of the community.

Preceding in death were his parents; three brothers, Bennis, John, and Carl, three sisters, Jessie, Sadie, and Bertha; two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his widow, Ethyle; his daughter Lorine and husband, Carl W.; his son Hyatt and wife Bonnie; stepson, Wayne George and wife Joan of Kellerton; stepdaughter, Bonnie George Stevens and husband Paul of Ramstein, Germany; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly; also four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Rhea Fetty of Mt. Ayr; Ada Eversall and husband Joe of Stuart; Vera Buckholdt and husband Ed of Seattle, Wash.; and LaVere of Beatrice, Neb.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 16, 1968, at the Christian church in Kellerton, arranged by Paul Varner and conducted by Cela Fugate. Interment was in the Rose Hill cemetery at Lamoni.
