Company F., 44th Missouri Infantry.

Jacob Zimmerman
Died at his home in Decatur County, six miles northwest of Lineville, on last Sunday night at 10 o’clock from the effects of a hurt he received about two weeks previous by being thrown from a load of hay by the limb of a tree under which he was passing. He struck the wheel of the wagon in his fall and was afterwards further injured by the wheel crushing one of his ankles and bruising his body. The deceased was an old soldier, having served in the 44th Mo. Inft. during the civil war, and at the time of his death was receiving a pension of $12 per month. He participated in several battles, notably the hard fought battle of Franklin, Tenn., but was not wounded. He leaves a widow and seven children to mourn their loss. The remains were taken to Davis City for interment, his father and mother having been buried at that place. He was about 57 years age.
