Violet Vivian Erwine was born near Fargo, N.D., October 6, 1916. She lived there three years and then moved near Artesian, S.D. In October 1931, she, with her parents, moved to Lamoni. She was graduated from the Lamoni High school in the spring of 1933.

About three weeks ago she went to Evanston, Ill., and there secured a position in one of the leading banks of the city. Prior to beginning her employment, she returned for a short visit home.

Last Monday, she left with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Wright Erwine, with whom she was to make her home. After spending the night with her uncle, Ira Erwine, at Pontiac, Ill., they resumed their journey early in the morning to avoid heavy traffic. About 7 o'clock an automobile darted across the highway, colliding with their car, injuring the two adults and bringing instant death to Violet. The three-year-old son of the Erwines was unharmed.

Violet, just a month before her nineteenth birthday, leaves us in the bloom of young womanhood. Parents, associates, and neighbors testify of the beauty of her character and the sunniness of her nature. Thoughtful of the wishes of her parents and respectful of their advice, she consulted them and confided in them in the decisions in matters of recreation and life interests. In July, 1933, she was baptized into the Reorganized Latter Day Saint church. To that trust, she has been true.

She leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Erwine, and a brother, Floyd. One brother, Harold, preceded her in infancy. The list of relatives, including her aged grandfather and grandmother would be lengthy, and the company of friends who held her in esteem cannot be numbered.

Funeral services were held from the Coliseum, Thursday, September 5, Elder J. A. Lane was in charge and the sermon was delivered by Elder Roy A. Cheville. Interment at Rose Hill.
