FIERCE, CRESSWELL, MCINTYRE

Biographical and Historical Record of Ringgold and Decatur Counties, Iowa, (Lewis Publishing Company (1887)), pp. 603-04:

"F. W. FIERCE, farmer and stock-raiser, resides on section 34, Long Creek Township, where he owns 200 acres of land. He is a native of Hamilton County, Indiana, where he was born January 2, 1846, son of E. W. and Mary (Cresswell) Fierce, natives of Ohio . They removed to Knox County, Illinois, where they lived seven years, thence to Decatur County, in 1860, where they have since resided. F. W. was reared as a farmer, and has followed farming all his life. He has a good stock farm, well cultivated. He was married in Clarke County, Iowa, January 5, 1868, to Mary M. McIntyre, daughter of Nathan and Orytha McIntyre, natives of New York. She was born in Fulton County, Illinois, October 15, 1849. They have five children -- Phila A., Adella, Annetta, Edith C. and Clark. Mrs. Fierce's mother died when she was two years of age, and she was reared by her grandparents. Mr. Fierce is a member of the Masonic fraternity, Decatur Lodge, No. 109. Himself and wife are members of the Protestant Methodist church. When he and his brother, William, purchased a farm of 120 acres in partnership, he was only able to pay $25 for his first payment. All he has he obtained by hard labor, with the assistance of his excellent wife."
