The Roy and Merle Burchett Family

Roy is the son of Franklin and Margaret Jane (Grimm) Burchett. He was born on a farm in Clarke County, northeast of Grand River on August 2, 1893.

Merle is the daughter of Willis and Anna (Kier) Crees. She was born on a farm southeast of Grand River in Decatur County on May 15, 1895.

Roy served his country in World War I, and Merle taught many rural schools in Decatur County.

They were married on March 11, 1921, and started housekeeping north of Grand River where their first son, Edwin Eugene, was born on August 27, 1922. On August 19, 1924, a second son, Robert Adrian was born, and they moved to the farm where they were to reside for 55 years until moving to Grand River in the fall of 1979.

Edwin married Carmaleta Bryant on March 30, 1946.

Robert married Kathleen McGraw on November 1, 1947.

There are three granddaughters: Janet Sue Karowski, Jacqueline Kay Burchett, Lynda Kay Burchett; and one precious great-granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Karwoski.

Roy and Merle were privileged to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on March 11, 1971.

NOTE: Roy died on October 1, 1983. Merle died in 1989. They were interred at Grand River Cemetery, Grand River, Iowa.
