H. C. BONE, physician, surgeon and druggist, at Grand River, was born in Jefferson County, Ohio, March 25, 1850, son of JOSEPH and SARAH (DORSEY) BONE, the former a native of Ohio and of German ancestry; the latter a native of Maryland and of Irish ancestry. Mr. BONE was reared on a farm in his native State until fourteen years of age; then came West with his parents, who settled in Alba. Here he assisted his faith in the mercantile business and attended school. He commenced the study of medicine, in 1869, with Dr. STEELMAN, a brother of JUDGE STELLMAN, of Burlington. He remained with him one year, then attended medical college at Keokuk, the State, in 1873. He commenced the practice of his profession in 1874, in Van Wert, Decatur County, and remained there months, then went to Decatur City, and practiced one year and a half, then to Grand River where he still resides, and practices his profession in partnership with Dr. J. P. MAXWELL. He also has C. COLE as partner in the drug store. Dr. BONE was married in Albia, January 11, 1877, to MINNIE MORRIS, born in Albia, August 27, 1856, daughter of JAMES H. and AUGUSTA (BRIGGS) MORRIS, and they have three children – FRED, GUSSIE, and JAMES B. The doctor is popular where he is known, and commands a large, successful and lucrative practice.

H. C. Bone, physician, surgeon and druggist, at Grand River, was born in Jefferson County, Ohio, March 25, 1850, son of Joseph and Sarah (Dorsey) Bone, the former a native of Ohio and of German ancestry; the latter a native of Maryland and of Irish ancestry. Mr. Bone was reared on a farm in his native state until fouteen (sic) years of age; then came West with his parents, who settled in Albia. Here he assisted his father in the mercantile business and attended school.

Bone commeced the study of medicine in 1869, with Dr. Steelman. He remained with him one year, then attended medical college at Keokuk, Iowa, in 1873. He commenced the practice of his profession in 1874, in Van Wert, Iowa and remained there three months. Then he went to Westerville, and practiced one and a half years. After this he went to Grand River, where he practiced in partnership with Dr. J. P. Maxwell. He also had C. Cole as a partner in the drug store.

Dr. Bone was married in Albia, January 11, 1877, to Minnie Morris, born in Albia, Aug. 27, 1856, daughter of James H. and August (Briggs) Morris, and they had three children: Fred, Gussie, and James B. The doctor was popular where he was known and commanded a large, successful and lucrative practice.
