Rex Hewitt Sr., 66, of Newton, died June 27, 2005, at Skiff Medical Center, Newton.  He was born Aug. 23, 1938 in Floris to Emmett and Jessie Olive (Carbaugh) Hewitt. He married Linda L. Lust, July 31, 1968 in Houston, Texas. He was a 1956 graduate of Eldon High School. He moved to Monroe and worked for PAG and Brodersen Oil Company, Hewitt Tree Service, Hewitt Corner Mart, Inc. and worked for Hewitt Excavating Inc. He was a member of the Newton Elks Club, Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League, Monroe Volunteer Fire Department and the First Christian Church. Survivors include his wife; son, Rex Hewitt Jr. of Newton; two daughters, Teri Butler and Darla Oskam both of Newton; five grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Hewitt of Monroe and Keith Hewitt of Bloomfield; and five sisters, Flavena Mallory and Janice Sullivan both of Newton, Lucille Hootman of Floris, Virginia Ashmore of Ottumwa and Mary Alyce McSparen of Eddyville. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Arlo, Roscoe, Donald, Elwood and Cecil Hewitt; and sister, Eloise Hewitt. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, the Rev. William Patton officiating. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery, Newton.  Visitation will begin after 3 p.m. today at the funeral home with the family present from 6-8 p.m.  Memorials in his name may be left at the funeral home.
