Scott Finch Wagler

Scott Finch Wagler was born in Pulaski, Iowa, on June 22, 1914, the son of Clarence E. Wagler and Ethel Finch Wagler. He died suddenly in his office on the evening of January 19, 1980. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1932 and then attended the University of Iowa. He loved sports and played in all sports in high school and played football at the University of Iowa.

He was married to Ruth M. Stinson Dodd on June 25, 1937, at Newton, Iowa. To this marriage three sons and a daughter were born, Scott Jr., Gene, Richard, and Marsha.

He worked for the Goodrich Tires and Rubber Company in Burlington, Iowa. After graduation from Carpenter School of Mortuary Science he joined the family in the Wagler Funeral Home and Wagler Furniture Co. in Bloomfield in 1940. He served in the Navy during World War II, in 1944-45.

He is the president of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association. He served as treasurer for that organization from 1969 to 1977. He is a member of the Lions Club, and is a past District Governor of Lions International; a member of Franklin Lodge No. 14, A.F.&A.M. of the Royal Arch Chapter, Knights Temper, of Kaaba Shrine Club, a 32nd degree mason of both York and Scottish Rite. He is a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge; of the Order of the Eastern Star, and is a Past Patron of Friendship Chapter of the Eastern Star. He is a member of Reed Whisler Post of the American Legion, of the Elks Lodge, and is a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church and has been active on the Church Board and a Church Trustee. He is on the State Board of Blue Cross and Blue Shield from this district.

Scott is survived by his wife, Ruth; by three sons, Scott Jr. of Bloomfield, Gene of Clear Lake, Iowa, and Richard of Bloomfield, Iowa and one daughter Marsha Jarrett of Des Moines, Iowa; one brother, Chris Wagler of Bloomfield, Iowa, one sister, Alice Marie Bianco of Mason City, Iowa, and by 11 grandchildren and one grandchild.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 22, 1980, at the Wagler Funeral Home, Bloomfield, Iowa, conductedby the Rev. Eldon Haworth. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Bloomfield, Iowa. A memorial has been established to the Bloomfield United Methodist Church.
