West Des Moines, IowaRuth Edna Croft, formerly of Port Charlotte, FL, passed away January 2, 2014 after a long battle with Alzheimer's and a short respiratory illness. A remembrance will be held at a later date at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines. A private burial will take place at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA.
Ruth was born October 11, 1924 in Bayard, IA, to Gertrude and Arthur Phelps. She married John L. Croft on December 7, 1947. They moved to Florida in 1972, where they enjoyed retirement until his passing on August 5, 2010. At that time, she moved to Indiana. Ruth enjoyed square-dancing, gardening, sewing and needlepoint throughout her life.
Ruth is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John G. and Linda Croft of Fremont, CA; her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Tim Dietz, of Indianapolis, IN; granddaughter, Sarah (Adam) Mitschelen of Indianapolis; grandson, Andrew (Krystal) Dietz of Indianapolis; granddaughter, Amy Croft of Fremont; great-grandchildren, Olivia Ruth Mitschelen, Henry Allen Mitschelen and Madilynn Mae Joan Dietz of Indianapolis and her brother, Eugene (Shirley) Phelps of Bayard, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Croft and sisters, Thelma Schaaf, Reva Manhica and Evelyn Hulsebus.
