Robert Lewellen Creager, 88, died March 20, 2004 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center from complications of a stroke. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 25 at All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart, with Father David Fleming officiating. Burial will be in the Dexter Cemetery.

Robert was born April 27, 1915 at Linden, Iowa, graduated from Dexter High School and attended Drake University for one year. He served in the U.S. Army from May 3, 1941 to August 11, 1945 as a Corporal of the Company I, 3rd Battalion 34th Division 133rd Infantry, and received a Purple Heart. Robert was Post Master of the Dexter Post Office for 17 years after operating the Creager’s Café with his wife for 15 years.

Robert was a member of the Dexter Lions, Dexter Chamber of Commerce and All Saints Catholic Church. He was also a 50 year member of both the Dexter American Legion and the 34th Division Association, serving as President at one time. Robert will be remembered for his pleasant and positive personality.

He is survived by his son, Keith Creager; daughters, Kathleen Mitchell and Karen Creager; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and sisters, Ruth Killingsworth and Jean Carlson. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Modesta and a brother.

Visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cramer-Link Funeral Home in Stuart, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Memorial may be made to Dexter Round House or All Saints Catholic Church.
