MILFORD E. (MICK) BARKER

Funeral services for Milford Barker, 73, of Arthur were at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the United Methodist Church in Arthur. He died Wednesday, 5 Dec 1984 in the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove after a sudden illness. Mr. Barker was a member of the Arthur City Council at the time of his death.

The Rev. Pacifico Camarin Jr. and the Rev. Robert Lundberg officiated with burial in the Hayes Township Cemetery at rural Arthur. A prayer service was held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. with Masonic services conducted by Ben Hur Lodge 611 at 8 p.m. in the Christensen Funeral Home in Ida Grove. Mr. Barker was born to Albert and Ellen (Johnson) Barker on a farm south of Arthur on 22 July 1911. He spent most of his lifetime on that farm. He attended the Hayes Township school and the Arthur Baptist Church as a child.

He married Myrtle Thompson on 7 March 1941 at Arthur. They farmed in the Arthur area before retiring to Arthur. Mr. Barker, prior to retirement was president of the Ida County Fair Board, served as a 4-H leader and was a member of the Ida County ASCS committee. After his retirement and move to town in 1972, he served on the city council. He was active in the Arthur United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star and he helped with the Arthur Retirement Apartments and the new Arthur Community Hall.

Survivors include: his wife; two sons, Dean A. of Sunnyvale, Texas and James K. of Arthur; two sisters, Miss Elva Barker of Bremerton, Washington and Mrs. Lowell (Gertrude) Sederberg of Port Orchard, Washington; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Steven.
