Obituary for Elizabeth Powers ( nee McNertney) Manilla Times December 1962

A requiem Mass was held at Sacred Heart Church Thursday, December 27 at 8:30 AM for Mrs. Tom Powers. Fr. Cletus Keleher officiated. The Huebner Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Powers died in her home on December 24, 1962. Internment was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Earl Hickey, Art Hickey, Jack McSorley, Frank Healy, Tommy Finnegan and Joe Hanrahan as pallbearers.

Elizabeth, daughter of Martin and Maria (Finnegan) McNertney was born in Manilla on November 26, 1889.

Elizabeth worked various jobs including working as a domestic in a household in Omaha, NE where she also worked in a department store. One of her duties for the family was to drive the lady of the house around Omaha, in an electric car.

In later years she worked as a cook at the Manilla Railroad Depot and did a considerable amount of practical nursing, including mid-wifery.

On November 27, 1916 she was united in marriage to Thomas Powers in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Buck Grove.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her husband, three sons, James of Washington, Iowa, Francis of Manilla, William of Omaha, NE; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Hargens of Manilla and Rita, Mrs. Homer Hanneman of Sioux City; three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Hickey of Manilla, Mrs. C.W. Boyce of Scottsbluff, NE and Mrs. Ellen Dillon of San Bruno, CA; three brothers, Leonard of Angora, NE, Bernard of Pueblo, CO and Lawrence of Florida.
