He was born March 26, 1959, to George and Rosalie (Bloyer) Schmidt, in Clinton, Iowa.
He attended Miles Elementary School and graduated from East Central High School in 1978. He married Sandra Joy (Menard) Snedeker on May 9, 1981, in Storm Lake, Iowa. The couple had one daughter, Maryrose.
He worked in the baking industry in Storm Lake and Carroll, before operating his own bakery in Charlotte, Iowa. He was famous for his butter rolls and glazed donuts. Later he worked at the Family Dollar Distribution Center in Maquoketa until his retirement. He enjoyed attending flea markets to find antiques, as well as fishing and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his daughter, Maryrose Gladys (Jeremy) Simmons; four granddaughters, Lillian, Mia, Keelyn and Imogen; a grand furbaby, Diesel; his mother, Rosalie; his brothers, George (Karen) Schmidt, Ronald (Rebecca) Schmidt, and Kevin (Angie) Schmidt; his sisters, Sharlene Anderson, Rhonda Schmidt and Marlene Franzen.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra, in 2009; his father, George; two nephews Joey and Dustin; and a niece, Charity.
A wake will be conducted from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, April 9, at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa. A private funeral will be conducted at a later date.
