William Hayward Lissenden 1860 - 1921

The Clinton Advertiser Monday November 7, 1921 p. 1 William Hayward Lissenden passed away at the family home, 606 Sixth avenue, at 8:30 o'clock this morning, after an illness of over two years. Mr. Lissenden became ill over two years ago and had been at Jane Lamb hospital much of the time during his long illness. The deceased was born in Chicago April 19, 1860 and came to Clinton in 1880 from New York city. When a young boy he spent his summers in this city the guest of his grandmother, Mrs. John Fenlon. In 1885 he was united in marriage to Miss Belle McKinzie and in 1894 moved to Scranton, Iowa, where he practiced vetinary surgery. He returned to make his home in Camanche in 1915, where he was stricken. He passed away at the old McKenzie home where he resided after his marriage. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, four children, C. Houghton Lissenden of Chicago, Mrs. W.E. Stevens of Dupree, S.D., Mrs. Clifford Shockley of Ames and William A. Lissenden of this city; also three grand children.

The Clinton Herald Thursday November 10, 1921 p. 8 William Hayward Lissenden was laid to rest in Springdale cemetery this afternoon following funeral services conducted by the Rev. Harry E. Harned of the First Congregational church at the home in Sixth avenue. Attending the casket were Floyd Allen, Harry Rehnson, ElliottDean, Charles Nyquest, Arthur Sohr, Ralph Latham. Here for the funeral from out of the city are: J.H. McKenzie of Leavernworth, Kansas; A.H. McKenzie of Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Lissenden, of Chicago; Mrs. Clifford Shockley, of Ames; Mrs. W.E. Stevens of Dupree, S.D.
