DEWITT — Bernadine L. Waack, 89, of DeWitt, died Tuesday January 20th, 2009, at WestWing Place, DeWitt, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, January 24, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, DeWitt, Iowa. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, January 23rd, 2009, from 4 until 7 p.m. with a rosary at 4:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, DeWitt, Iowa. Her grandsons will be her pallbearers. Grandaughters will be honorary pallbearers. Memorials may go to St. Joseph’s Building Fund in her memory or Westwing activity fund. Bernadine was born on November 29th, 1919, in Welton, Iowa, the daughter of James L. and Mary (Witt) Pinter. She was a 1937 graduate of Welton High School. Bernadine Pinter married Robert H. Waack on February 21, 1939, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in DeWitt, Iowa. Together they raised 9 children and would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary next month. Bernadine loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they loved her cookies. Her memberships included St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. Those left to honor her memory are her husband; 2 daughters, Carolyn (Chuck) Hunter, DeWitt, Iowa, and Lois (Alvin) Block, DeWitt, Iowa; 6 sons, James F. (Nancy) Waack, Rutledge, Missouri, Ronald (Cheryl) Waack, Lititz, Pennsylvania, Robert R. Waack, Wells, Minnesota, Stephen E. ( Helen) Waack, Florissant, Missouri and Paul J. (Kathy) Waack, Cedar Falls, Iowa; 24 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Pinter DeWitt. Bernadine was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sons, Warren and Dennis Waack; a grandson, Michael Waack; and sister, Madge Minor.
