MORRISON, Ill. — Josephine P. Smith, 99, of Morrison, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009 at the Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison, IL. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, at the Emmanuel Reformed Church in Morrison, IL. The Rev Jeff McIlrath will be officiating. Visitation is from noon until the time of the funeral service Monday at the Emmanuel Reformed Church. The Morrison Chapel Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Interment will be at Grove Hill Cemetary in Morrison.Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Reformed Church and Resthave Nursing Home.She was born Dec. 14, 1909 in Morrison, IL. to Jacob and Jenny (Vogel) Tenboer. She was educated in the Union Grove Grade school and graduated from Morrison High School, Morrison, IL. She attended Northern Illinois Teachers College in DeKalb, IL. She married Garrett Smith on August 5, 1931in Fulton, IL. He died August 28, 1958.Her teaching career lasted for 40 years; 10 years in the area rural schools and 30 years as kindergarten teacher in the Morrison Public School. Josephine was a charter member of Emmanuel Reformed Church, Morrison, IL and member of the church’s Fellowship and Study Circle. She also served as the church’s choir director for 25 years and was chairman of the Keenagers Group. Josephine was active in the Morrison Parent/Teachers Association and the Girl Scouts. She volunteered at the Morrison Golden Meals, Resthave Nursing Home and the Morrison Historical Society. She was the last living charter member of Delta Kappa Gamma; an honorary teachers organization. Her membership in this organization spanned 66 years. Josephine liked to travel and loved music, reading, children and animals. Survivors include one son, Doug Smith, Houston, TX, one daughter, Sue Schulz, Littleton, CO., and two grandchildren, Andrew and Scott Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Garrett, two brothers, Corneil and James Tenboer and one sister Harriet Ottens.To send online condolences go to www.bosmarenkes.com. Death date: Jan. 8, 2009
