Margaret Rosa Herbst Shields March 29, 1918 – December 27, 2008 Margaret Rosa Herbst Shields, age 90, of Grantsburg, Wisconsin, formerly of Clinton, Iowa, died Saturday, December 27, 2008, at the Continuing Care Center in Grantsburg, Wisconsin. Visitation and memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at Lemke Funeral Homes, South Chapel, 2610 Manufacturing Drive, Clinton, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 11:00 to 1:00 with a short memorial service starting at 1:00 with the Rev. Jennifer Henry of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. She was born March 29, 1918, in Moline, Illinois, daughter of John and Lena (Petersen) Herbst. She attended school in Moline, Illinois. She married Forrest Daniel Shields on January 3, 1942, in Denver, Colorado. From Denver they moved to Clinton, Iowa, in 1949. She formerly worked at Burpee Seed Company for 14 years, and then Clinton Garment Factory and Peterson Harned Von Maur. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clinton, Iowa, for 50 years. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, cooking, baking, and spending time with her family (and saying “look what my kids give me!”) She was a member of the Women of the Moose for 25 years. She is survived by her daughter, Diana (Gary) Hallenbeck-Anderson of Grantsburg, Wisconsin; her brother, Julius (Dede) Efflandt of Sarasota, Florida; three grandchildren, Christina (Greg) Meyer of Siren, Wisconsin; Lori (Mike) Laqua of Frederic, Wisconsin; Shari (Brian) Louis of Grantsburg, Wisconsin; and seven great-grandchildren, Chad, Heidi, Derik, Kayla, Corey, Krysta and Spencer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest; two sons-in-law, Charles Hagen and Gerry Hallenbeck; her parents, John and Lena Herbst, her cousin, Marie Rasmussen, her stepmother Elsie Efflandt Herbst, and other family members and many friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family or the Blind Society.Death date: Dec. 27, 2008
