FULTON, Ill. — Phyllis A. Near, 48, of Fulton, died Friday, January 9, 2009, at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 15, 2009, at the Fulton Presbyterian Church, Fulton, IL, The Rev. Dr. Stanley Bomgarden, pastor of Fulton Presbyterian Church in Fulton, IL, will be officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Fulton Presbyterian Church, Fulton, IL. The Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Interment will be in Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL. Memorials may be made to Fulton Presbyterian Church, Fulton, IL, American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge, Rochester, MN, and the Riverbend Education Association. She was born April 5, 1960, in Clinton, IA, to William E. and Marie (Roberts) Burkhardt.Phyllis was educated in Fulton Grade Schools and was a 1978 graduate of Fulton High School, Fulton, IL. She attended Black Hawk Community College, Moline, IL. She married Larry D. Near on April 12, 1980, in Fulton, IL. He survives. Phyllis was first employed as an orthodontia assistant for Dr. David Schrody DDS, Clinton, IA. Later she was employed as a dental assistant for Dr. Bill Wilkin DDS, Fulton, IL. She most recently was employed as a computer aid at the Riverbend Middle School, Fulton, IL. She was a member of Fulton Presbyterian Church, Fulton, IL; currently serving as an elder and the Fulton Country Club. She enjoyed cross stitching and attending Riverbend athletic events. Survivors include her husband, Larry; three sons, Joshua (Kimberly) Near of Little Elm, TX, Justin (Tara) Near of Tulsa, OK, and Jordan Near of Fulton, IL; two grandchildren, Carson Haynie, Ryne Near; mother, Mrs. Marie Burkhardt of Fulton, IL; one sister, Frieda McLuckie of Cedar Rapids, IA; and one brother, Bill (Patricia) Burkhardt of Tulsa, OK.
