CLINTON — Charles J. Kaup, age 89, of Clinton, died Saturday, January 10, 2009, at Mercy Living Center South in Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 14th, at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Casketbearers will be his grandsons: Bob Doty, Ben Fenzel, Jason and Tony Wynkoop, and Brad, Ryan, Jason, Lucas, Jared, and Zach Kaup. Honorary casket bearers are his granddaughters: Andrea Kleinschmidt, Leslie Kaup, Megan Fenzel, Katie Kaup, Jessica Sparks and Kaitlin Rinabarger. Charles was born in Bloomington, IL, on December 6, 1919, the son of Joseph and Katharine Teiber Kaup. He married Florence Rickerl on July 12, 1941, at St. Mary’s Church in Clinton. Florence died on July 17, 1998. Charles served with the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman in the European Theater during W.W. II. He was a member of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters Union #431. He had been employed at the Del Farms, National Tea, Gaarde’s, Randalls and Kopps Stores. Charles was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, AMVETS Post #28, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #363, Izaak Walton League and the Corner Deli Coffee Club. He had bowled in the Thursday night men’s league at the Recreation Lanes. He enjoyed wood working, gardening, hunting and fishing. Charles is survived by seven daughters: Cecily Doty, Susan (Denny) Ytsen, Rita Dermody, Mary (Jim) Simpson and Julie (Kenneth) Vilmont all of Clinton, Nancy (Richard) Wynkoop and Janis Kaup both of Camanche; five sons: Carl (Linda) Kaup, Peter (Mary) Kaup, David Kaup and Daniel Kaup all of Clinton and Larry (Christine) Kaup of Menasha, WI; 28 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank Kaup of Bloomington, IL; a sister, Rose Trimby of Sarasota, FL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a granddaughter, Renee Wynkoop; six sisters and a brother. Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice or the Moose Lodge.
