LECLARIE — Funeral service and Mass of Christian Burial for Harold E. Ehrecke, 85, a resident of LeClaire will be 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, January17, 2009, at Our Lady of the River Catholic Church, LeClaire, Iowa. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. The luncheon will be immediately following Mass at the church hall. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, Davenport. The family invites you to join them for a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be Saturday at 9:00 a.m. until the time of the mass at the church. Mr. Ehrecke died Monday, January 12, 2009, at West Wing Care Center, DeWitt, Iowa, after a brief illness. Harold was born February 8, 1923, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of William E. and Marie (Springmeier) Ehrecke. He was a graduate of St. Ambrose Academy class of 1941. Harold was united in marriage to Betty J. Richlen, June 9, 1945, at St. Peters Catholic Church, Buffalo, Iowa. He retired in 1988 after farming in Scott County and also employed by Pleasant Valley School District. After retiring in 1988, Harold and Betty moved to Our Lady of the River Catholic Church to become caretakers of the church; which they had been members of since 1955 after moving to LeClaire. Harold was a member of Our Lady of the River Catholic Church and the church council, Scott County Farm Bureau, Mississippi Valley Wood Carvers Association, Charter member of the Knights of Columbus Our Lady of the River Council #13084 and Davenport Moose Club. Harold spent countless hours as a volunteer for the church. He was always there to lend a helping hand. Harold was a very talented woodworker and woodcarver. He also enjoyed bowling and being a bartender at Fairyland through the years. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of the River Catholic Church. Those left to honor his memory include his six children and their spouses: Theresa and Doug Havenhill, Peoria, AZ., Eileen and Gregg Beuse, Denver, IA., Mary Beth and Steve Hege, Clinton, IA., Jerome Ehrecke, Durant, IA., David Ehrecke, LeClaire, IA., and Gregory and Donna Ehrecke, Davenport; 10 grandchildren, 2 stepgrandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 3 stepgreat-grandchildren; brothers and their spouses, Kenneth and Ella Ehrecke, Maysville, IA., Vernon and Marie Ehrecke, Davenport, and William, Jr. and Carol Ehrecke, Blue Grass, IA.; sisters-in-law, Cecilia Ehrecke and Anne Ehrecke, both of Davenport. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; infant sons, Harold E. Jr., Michael, and a son Donavan in 2001, a great-grandson, Joshua David; brothers, Eugene Ehrecke, Warren Ehrecke and Paul Ehrecke; and sister-in-law, Rosemary Ehrecke. May they rest in peace.
