The Clinton Herald Tuesday March 3, 1953 p. 24 Joseph George Gassman, 64, 524 First Ave., died at 7 p.m. Monday in Mercy hospital where he had been a patient since Feb. 12. The body is in the Delaney funeral home where friends may call beginning at 7 p.m. today. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Mr. Gassman was a carpenter by trade and had lived in Clinton for 40 years. For the last 11 years he had been employed at Clinton Foods Inc. He was born Feb. 26, 1889, at Waupeton, and the the son of the late Peter and Margaret Jochum Gassman. He married Elizabeth Kelin, Oct. 1, 1912, at Balltown. He was a member of Sacred Heart church and of the Holy Name society. He is survived by his wife and five children; Mrs. Marvin (Mae) Bienlein and Alice, both of Los Angeles, Calif., George of Iowa City, Joseph W. and James F., both of Clinton; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Kersch, Mrs. Harry Earle and Mrs. Martha Pape, all of Dubuque, three brothers, Jake of Balltown, Fred of Guttenberg and Raymond of Dubuque, and nine grandchildren. His parents, a daughter, Rose Marie, and one brother preceded him in death.
