PRESTON — Hobart H. Schroeder, age 82, of Preston, Iowa, died Sunday, November 30, 2008, at the Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2008, at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Preston, Iowa, with Pastor Chad Whaley, interim pastor of Salem Lutheran Church, Spragueville, Iowa officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral service. Interment of his cremated remains will take place in Spragueville Cemetery, Spragueville, at a later date. Visitation will be held from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Hobart’s memory. Online condolences and memorial tributes may be given to the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com.Hobart was born September 7, 1926, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Louis F. and Dora M. (Benson) Schroeder. He attended Clinton area schools and later served for two years in the National Guard. Hobart was married to Joan A. Gool on May 2, 1948, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton, Iowa. Joan passed away on January 29, 2007.Hobart farmed in Clinton County for over sixty years. He purchased his own farm south of Preston in 1956. He also worked on the assembly line at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa, Iowa and for Clinton Food Processing, Clinton, Iowa. Hobart was a longtime member of the Salem Lutheran Church, Spragueville, where he was active on the church council. He was also a member of the Clinton County Farm Bureau. Most of all, Hobart loved spending time with family and friends. Hobart will be dearly missed by three sons, Stephen (Kathleen) Schroeder of Atlanta, Georgia, Thomas Schroeder of Des Moines, Iowa, and Timothy (Cheryl) Schroeder of Powhatan, Virginia; two daughters, Judi (Hans) Henningsen of Preston and Jill (Thomas) Jepsen of Oskaloosa, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and three sisters, Donna (Gary) Mulholland, Delores (Ray) Morgan, and Lillian Vining, all of Clinton.Hobart was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joan; granddaughter, Nicole Jepsen; and two sisters, Dorothy Kaczinski and Luella CousinsDeath date: Nov. 30, 2008
