Mattie Wetzel, 75, former McGregor resident, died Friday at a Mason City nursing home following a long illness of cancer. She was a sister of the late Mrs. Emma Merritt of McGregor.
Funeral services were held in the McAuley-Scanlan chapel in Mason City Monday morning and burial was in Pleasant Grove cemetery, McGregor, that afternoon. The Rev. W.O. Crosby was in charge of the graveside services.
Mattie Patch was born January 13, 1882, at McGregor. When she was three years old she was adopted by John and Lydia Wetzel. She lived in McGregor until 25 years ago when she went to Mason City to make her home. She has been a frequent visitor here since that time until the death of her sister.
Surviving are nieces and nephews, among whom are the following who were here for the burial services Monday afternoon: Mrs. Jane Nockels, St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. John Kinsley, Mrs. Ethel Drahn, LaCrescent; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Merritt, Waterloo; Frank Dalmann, Chicago and Ed. Merritt, McGregor.
