Mrs. William Merritt, life-long resident of McGregor, died Thursday, August 16, at St. Paul, Minn. She had been in failing health for several years, during which time she has been with her children.
Funeral services were held here Monday at 2 p.m. in the Pilkington funeral parlors with the Rev. Sylvan Lange officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Grove cemetery.
As Emma J. Patch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Patch, she was born at McGregor on October 4, 1876.
She was married to William Warren Merritt on June 16, 1895. Seven children were born to them, six of whom survive. They are: William Joseph of Waterloo, Edward Henry of McGregor, Mrs. Paul Nockels (Jayne) of St. Paul, Mrs. R.L. Gripple (Mattie) of Havre, Montana, Mrs. Ethel Drahn of Sparta, Wis. and Mrs. John Kinsley (Dorothy) of LaCrescent, Minn. One daughter, Rachel Adena, died in infancy.
She is also survived by one sister, Mattie Wetzel, of Mason City and ten grandchildren.
