DIED - At McGregor, on Sunday night, Feb. 21st, about 12, of Pneumonia, after an illness of one week, George Henly, second son of John H. and Hannah M. Freeman.
George was born in Marengo, Ill, Oct 3d, 1848; he was aged 20 years, 4 months and 18 days.
The deceased was an industrious, hard-working, steady, sober, young man, whose death our community universally deplores. We do not remember to have heard more sorrow expressed, than was seen and heard when the news of his sudden death spread through the city. Faithful to every trust, and often-times those trusts were large; mild in disposition; manly in his associations with his equals, deferential to those older than himself, it is rare that parents lose a son so much [illegible] to awaken grief.
We know the sadness which fills the hearts of his agonized mother, his father, his brother and two little sisters. It is not weakness to confess that we have wept for their sorrow, but we cannot do more. The All-Seeing does His own will; 'tis our duty, painful though it be to submit.
May God pity all of us. Our paths will lead to the tomb; no skill of earth, or prayers of heart will avail when Time makes our record up.
The funeral sermon was preached on Tuesday, at the residence, by Rev. Mr. Sawyer of the Baptist Church.
