Rev. Mr. Fothergill died at Elgin, Iowa, Tuesday, Nov. 13, 1894, funeral services being held Wednesday, the interment taking place at the Highland cemetery. Mr. Fothergill was born in Marion county, Ohio, Oct. 13, 1823, removed to Indiana with his father's family when he was a boy, and in 1847 came to Dubuque county, Iowa. In 1849 he and his wife came to Fayette county which has since been his home, with the exception of a few years spent in Kansas. He was married in Indiana to Lydia Weed in 1842, with whom he had eight children, four of whom are living. This lady died in 1887, and in 1890 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Shaffer, she dying in 1893. He early entered the ministry, having been a minister over 50 years. Rev. Fothergill was one of the pioneers of Fayette county, and was connected with all the events of the early settlement of the country.

Note: Highland cemetery records, Clayton co. does not include Rev. Fothergill; he is buried in Illyria cemetery, Fayette co. on the Clayton/Fayette counties border
