Elkader Register, 09 Mar. 1893.
On Feb. 17th, at the residence of A. B. Stocking, Aurora, occurred the death of Mrs. Sally Bird Noyes, widow of the late Henry P. Noyes. She was born in Troy, N.Y., Sept. 25th, 1814. She had been a resident of Oneida county, N.Y., for many years and had endeared herself to a large circle of friends. Two years ago, accompanied by her daughter and grandson, she came to Iowa, wishing to spend the remainder of her days with relatives that had preceded her to a western home some years previous. Mrs. Noyes had been a patient sufferer for years, cheerfully bearing her cross and submitting all to the divine wisdom of a loving Saviour. She was a woman of rare abilities and a gentle disposition, quiet and unobtrusive, yet always giving words of cheer to those around her. She was a devoted Christian and her memory will be cherished as a bright example, and she will "live in the hearts she has left behind." The deceased leaves a daughter, Mrs. L. L. Dodge, and a grandson, O. H. Dodge, who will deeply mourn her absence. She was an aunt of Mrs. A. B. Stocking and Mrs. M. S. Durfey, of Aurora, Mrs. L. D. Carpenter, Fayette, H. R. Carpenter, Independence, and Mrs. D. G. Griffith, Elkader. The funeral services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 21st, Rev. J. B. Wyatt, pastor of the M.E. church, officiating. The interment was in the east side cemetery near her sisters, Mrs. J. L. Carpenter and Mrs. Mary Jewett. May the consolations of faith, hope and trust be with all those who mourn; and this bereavement for one so loved, be softened by the promise: "Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted."
