Elkader Register, 02 Oct. 1890. From the Postville Review, undated.
An old lady by the name of Bearce residing with her husband at Frankville, met with a horrible death last Sunday. It seems she had been partially paralyzed so that she could not get around the house without help, the old gentleman staying with her and attending to the household duties. On Sunday afternoon he went to a neighbor's for a few moments, and when he returned she was dead on the floor, her clothing being mostly burned off of her. It is supposed that in lighting her pipe she in some manner set fire to her clothing and could not help herself sufficiently to extinguish it. It is a sad calamity.-Postville Review.
