Elkader Weekly Register, 01 Dec. 1887.
J. N. Strader, died at his residence in Elkader on Thursday night, after a sickness of but a week's duration; aged 34 years, ten months and twenty-four days.
Deceased was born at Colesburg, Iowa, Dec. 25th, 1853, where he was reared to manhood, and where in 1874 he was married to Miss Julia Moreland, who with two children, and two brothers of deceased, are left to mourn for a loved one gone before. Mr. Strader and family removed to Elkader about four years ago, and entered the employ of B. S. Whitney, as tinner. A steady, industrious man, he won respect of all by his honest, manly ways, and there are many who will drop a silent tear o'er the friend departed.
Deceased was a charter member of Mystic camp, 319, M.W.A., of Elkader, and the order held services at the house on Saturday morning, after which his remains were taken to Colesbrg for interment.
