Elkader Weekly Register, 23 Dec. 1886.

H. A. Fobes, one of the former residents of this vicinity, died at the residence of his son, A. F. Fobes, in Lyon county, on December 07th, 1886, having reached the extreme age off 91 years.

Deceased first located in Clayton county some 33 years ago, and here he reared a large family of children, of whom ten survive him. Those residing in this vicinity are Mrs. O. F. Davis, Elkader; Mrs. Caroline Davis, Volga City, and Mrs. H. R. Strong, of Manchester, all of whom will have the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement.

Notes: He has a gravestone in the Hope cemetery, Hull, Sioux co. Iowa. It is engraved:
