Elkader Weekly Register, 23 Dec. 1886.

The sad duty is given us of announcing the death of Mrs. Peter Schmitz, at her home in Cox Creek township, on 18th inst, at 11 o'clock p.m., of dropsy. The deceased was the daughter of John Hagen, of Cox Creek, and was born Aug. 20th, 1861, being 25 years, 3 months and 28 days at her death. She was married Nov. 26th, 1879. Deceased leaves a bereaved husband and a little daughter of six years to mourn the loss of a beloved companion and a tender mother. Our sympathy goes out to them, - the aged father, and the surviving brothers and sisters. The last rites were paid the deceased and her remains laid to rest in the Elkader cemetery at 10 a.m. on Tuesday last, to which place they were accompanied by a large concourse of sympathizing friends.
