DEATH OF CHRISTIAN F. FOX
Christian F. Fox died yesterday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, of heart disease. He was born in Germany in June, 1804, and therefore was 82 years and 5 months of age.He emigrated to America in 1835, landing in New York city. From there he went to Norwich, Conn., where he labored, laying by a fair saving of hard earned wages. Here he met and won Miss Della Kehr, now his surviving widow.
Taking to the western fever he came to Cairo, Ill., where he resided for a while, when he entered Kentucky, landing at Paducah, in the vicinity of which place he engaged in planting. Not satisfied with the output, in May, 1854, he came to McGregor, which has been his home ever since. His business life has been a successful one, his property interests are quite large.
The widow and six children survive him, Geo. Fox, residing in Chicago; Charles Fox, proprietor of the Eating House; Henry Fox, residing at Healdsburg, Cal.; Mrs. V. Daubenberger, and Mrs. G. Henry Frese, of this city and Mrs. J.L. Leithold, of Postville.
Mr. Fox's long residence in McGregor has made him familiar to every citizen, his years of active business life, has brought him in contact with many. He was a firm, unflinching business man, a man of positive terms - one in whom all had explicit confidences - a graduate of the old school of honesty.
The funeral takes place to-morrow at 2 o'clock, at the German Presbyterian church, Rev. Schmidt officiating.
