Elkader Register, 23 Dec. 1881.

Mary Gleason departed this life on last Sabbath morning, her death being caused by old age. Mrs. Gleason was born in county Tipperary, Ireland, in 1792, being 89 years old at the time of her death. She came to Elkader about 24 years ago. Her husband died some 14 years ago, and since that time has resided with her son Daniel, at whose residence she died. She was a member of the Catholic church, and always consistent in her belief. She leaves 7 grown up children to mourn her loss. The funeral occurred on Monday, her remains being laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery.
