Diphtheria is raging in this community, both among the children and grown people. John Sturms has lost a young child, and two more are down sick, while the mother is unable to leave her bed. The family are entirely under the care of their friends.

Note: The obit of George Sturm (ie: John George Sturm) states 2 of his young daughters preceded him in death: Louisa and Mollie. This death notice very likely refers to one of them.
