Clayton County Journal, 26 Nov. 1873.
The sudden death of Mrs. Mathis of Windsor township in this county, cast a gloom over the neighborhood in which she lived, last Saturday morning. Mrs. Mathis was an amiable, highly respected and an esteemed wife of a prosperous farmer. Saturday morning her husband arose as usual and lighted the fire. After which he went to wake up his wife to prepare the morning meal; but to his great grief and amazement found that his wife had passed out of her earthly tabernacle. She was calmly sleeping that last long sleep that knows no waking. Further, as to cause, or supposed cause, of her sudden demise we have not learned. - Volga Valley Times.
