Welch, Wm. E. "Willie" died 1871

Clayton County Journal, 12 July 1871. From Volga City, dated 08 July 1871.

Letter describes the local festivities of the 4th of July celebration until...

the news came that a boy was drowned in the river, which broke the festivities of the day.

It was a sad time to take the little fellow dead from the water, who but a short time before was alive and enjoying the sports of the day as merrily as the best of us.

His name was Wm. E. Welch, youngest son of E. D. and Lenora Welch, in his ninth year. Willie was a smart interesting child, beloved by all who knew him; belonged to the Sabbath School. It was very hard for his brother and sister to give him up. His funeral was attended on the fifth and his remains followed to its last resting place by the Sabbath Schools of the place, and a large procession of the friends of the family.

Note: Burial is in Hillcrest cemetery, where he has a gravestone.
