Funeral services were held for Marie Johanna Reimer, 99, Thursday, June 21, 1990, at Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader. Rev. Lance A. Bentley officiated the service with burial in the Garnavillo Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dennis Reimer, Mark Larson, Jeffry Larson, Gerald Reimer, James Larson and Mike Reimer.
Marie Johanna, daughter of Joseph and Mary (Ehrhardt) Kuehl, was born April 20, 1891 in Boardman Township of Clayton County. She grew up and was educated in the area, attending rural schools.
On Feb. 24, 1910 she was united in marriage to Herman Reimer at her parents' home in Elkader. Four sons and two daughters were born to this union. They lived and farmed in this area all of their married life.
She was a cook at the school for a time. She was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Women's Fellowship, and enjoyed sewing, crocheting and craft work. For the past number of years Marie Reimer has resided at the Elkader Care Center, where she died Tuesday morning, June 19, 1990, at the age of 99.
Survivors include two sons: Haldon, Garnavillo and Melvin, Cedar Falls; two daughters: Mrs. Maurice (Laurine) Larson, and Mrs. Harry (Cathrine) Larson, both of Elkader; 20 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Malcolm (Mildred) Stoops, Elkader.
Preceding her in death were her husband on March 11, 1936; two sons: Clarence in 1969 and Orville in 1987; five sisters: Carrie Reimer, Katherine Baars, Hilda Keleher, Louise Klink and Frances Scullen; three brothers: George, Fred and Arthur Kuehl; two grandsons: Loren Herman and Gomer Larson, and a great-granddaughter, Sandra Wiethorn.
