The death of James A. Little, 87, occurred Friday evening, Dec. 17, 1954, at his home in town, after a month's illness, due to his advanced years.
Born in New York state on June 05, 1867, he was the son of Joseph and Mary Pholey Little. He attended grade school and at the age of 18 moved to Clayton county, Iowa.
On April 16, 1888, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Jane Shea at Strawberry Point. They farmed for several years and in 1906, moved to Volga, where he had resided until his death. Besides farming, Mr. Little was a carpenter, and while still active, was a blacksmith for a number of years.
Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Little, all of whom survive. They are Ray Little, Dubuque; Mrs. Albert (Maud) Meyers, Volga; Leo, at home; Glen of Elgin; Francis, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Ralph (Marie) Behrens, Mrs. Lester (Marguerite) __ahl, Strawberry Point and Mrs. Delbert (Rosella) Manning, Cedar Rapids.
Surviving besides the eight children are his wife, twenty-three grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Joseph Little, route 3, Strawberry Point; and one sister, Mrs. H. K. (Jennie) Meyers of Nassau, Minn.
Services were held Monday, Dec. 20, at Sacred Heart church at 9:30 a.m. The Rev. Francis Bradshaw, pastor, was celebrant of the Requiem High Mass and officiated at the graveside in the church cemetery, where interment was made.
Relatives of the deceased were casket bearers: Carlyle Curran, Howard Meyers, William White, Virgil Meyers, Frank Shea and Joseph Bergan.
