Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 15, for William F. Bahls, 50-year-old retired farmer who died suddenly Monday morning. The services were conducted from the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church at 2 o'clock with the Rev. R. F. Jacobs officiating. Burial was in the East Side cemetery.

Bahls had just climbed into a car with Tom Barton, to go to the Barton stockyards, when he was stricken. Barton had just started to turn the car around, in front of Dr. P. R. V. Hommel's office, when Bahls collapsed. He was pronounced dead from heart attack.

William Frederick Bahls was born in 1904 at Garnavillo, a son of Max Bahls. In 1926 he was married to Irene Polkow.

Besides his wife he is survived by nine children, Lavon of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Wendell Freeman, Dwayne, Harold, Mrs. Jeanette Schmelzer, Joann, Ida Lou, Geraldine and Donald all of Elkader. He also leaves four brothers, Arthur of Cedar Rapids, Walter of Guttenberg, Verni of Elkader and Carl of St. Olaf. There are four sisters, Mrs. Willis Hoth, Mrs. Elmer Hoth, Mrs. Elmer Klieforth and Mrs. Clarence Staade of Elkader.
