William Fredrick Stepp was born October 25, 1932 at Pittsburgh, Penn., the son of William Lester Stepp and Emma Elizabeth (Laber) Stepp. He attended school in Pittsburgh. At the age of 17 years he entered the United States Air Force on the 28th day of February 1950. He was united in marriage to Muriel Maxine Moore in the Navy chapel at Treasure Island, San Francisco, Calif., on March 11, 1953. To this union a son, Jeffrey Wallace, was born on December 09, 1953. The deceased was discharged from the service on February 28, 1954, and lived for a short time at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Moore, his father and mother-in-law, at Volga. He was employed in Cedar Falls and Volga.
He died on September 01, 1954. Surviving are his wife and son, Maxine and Jeffrey of Volga, Iowa; also his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Stepp; two brothers, Donald and Richard, and two sisters, Arlene at home and Joan, (Mrs. Robert Booey) and her daughter Candace. Several aunts and uncles also survive in Pittsburgh, Penn., and many friends.
Funeral services were held in Volga, September 08, by the Rev. Frank C. Greene, pastor of the Methodist church and interment was made in Hill Crest cemetery with rites of the American Legion Post No. 327 of Volga, Iowa.
Casket bearers were: Wm. Christeleit, F. G. Cummings, Wm. Berger, Howard Borden, Howard Taylor and Allen Robinson.
Color bearers were: Paul Crandall, Glenn Morarie, Arthur Zapf, David Holsman and Harry Reynolds.
Members of the firing squad were: Frank Baker, Lloyd Biedermann, Howard Berger, Wm. Shea, George Meader, Wm. Wilker Jr. and Kenneth Hoskyn. Roy Boleyn acted as sergeant-at-arms. Miss Betty Moore and Janis Kunzman sounded taps.
Among those from out of town who attended the last rites were: Mrs. Glen Way and Donald Way, Manchester; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Smith, Mrs. Hazel Smith, Oelwein; Mrs. J. S. Moore, Mrs. Raleigh Bearbower, Brandon; Mr. and Mrs. Homer Bailey, Strawberry Point; Mrs. Jason Bailey, Fayette; Mr. and Mrs. Willie Moore, Wadena; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Crane, Mederville; Mrs. Ethel Frey, West Union and Mrs. Oliver Hines, Oelwein.
