Funeral services for Francis H. (Butter) Stence were held Saturday, June 05, 1954, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic church. The Rev. Daniel Gorman officiated. Burial was in St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Stence and was born August 14, 1909, on a farm near Elkader. He was engaged in farming most of his life.
He was married to Murrel Cords February 14, 1935. Two children were born to this union, a son, Gene, and a daughter, Nancy, both at home.
He died Wednesday, June 02, 1954, at University hospitals, Iowa City, where he had been taken on Saturday.
Surviving are his wife, a son Gene and a daughter, Nancy. His mother, and two sisters, Mrs. Glen Probert and Mrs. Phil Allen of Volga, and four brothers, Vincent, John and James of Elkader and Jerry of Garnavillo. He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Stence.
Pallbearers were Oliver Emerson of Waterville, Edward Ohl and Melvin Scott of Strawberry Point, V. C. Wright, Don Tieden and Hanry Possehl Jr.
