STRAWBERRY POINT: Lewis John Petersen, 84, longtime resident of Strawberry Point and vicinity, died in Austin, Texas, on May 13, at the home of his daughter Helen.
Born Feb. 15, 1870 in Copenhagen, Denmark, he came to this country at an early age and was married to Anna R. Fritz in Strawberry Point on Nov. 07, 1901. He farmed in this community for many years, was a member of the Congregational church, of IOOF, and the Masonic lodge. His hobbies were fishing and gardening. For the past eight years he has lived with his daughter in Austin.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m., at the Gill chapel in Strawberry Point with the Rev. Dr. Max Strang of Dubuque officiating. Interment was in the Strawberry Point cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents, and is survived by his four children: Mrs. Veryl (Minnie) Madison, New Hampton; Mrs. M. (Helen) DeTimmerman, Austin, Texas; Lewis Petersen, Garrison, Iowa, and Floyd Petersen, Dubuque.
