Lillian Louise Schulte, daughter of Wm. and Isabel Bridgeford, was born in Jefferson, Iowa, on January 30, 1868, and died at the Greene County hospital on November 12, 1956, at the age of 88 years, nine months and 12 days.

She attended the public schools in Jefferson, Greene County Normal school, State Teachers college, Chicago university, and Emmons Blaine specialized school at Chicago, Ill.

She was widely known as a lecturer, public speaker and school teacher.

On June 25, 1908, she was married to Gearhart Henry Schulte in Jefferson by the Rev. W. C. Halbert of the Baptist church. Following her marriage she became a resident of Elkader and remained here for many years.

She was a member of the Baptist church of Des Moines. She was the last charter member of the Jefferson Women's Relief Corps, a past regent of the D.A.R., past president of the Service Star Legion at Elkader, and past state president and recording secretary of the Service Star Legion. She was a member of P.E.O., past president at Elkader; of the Legislative Ladies League; Charity chapter No. 152 of the Order of the Eastern Star at Elkader, and Federated Women's clubs. She was also a member and past president of Coterie.

During World War I, she served as co-chairman of the Council of National Defense Food Administration. She was a Democratic party worker, having been a delegate to the national convention in 1928. She was a director and vice-president of the Farmersburg Savings bank and chairman of the examining board from 1914 to 1926.

Among her hobbies were art collecting, painting pictures and china, wood carving and outdoor sports.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; three sisters and two brothers.

Surviving are: Mrs. Cora Schulte of Jefferson, a niece and sister-in-law; Ralph Troxell of Hollywood, Calif., a nephew; and Mrs. Elsie Lee of Grand Junction, Iowa, a half-sister, besides other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted from the Congregational church in Elkader at 2 o'clock last Friday afternoon, Nov. 16. The Rev. Paul Kitterer of Peace Evangelical and Reformed church officiated. Interment was in the East Side cemetery.

Casket bearers were Henry Wolf, Fern Sharp, Harold Hall, LeRoy Ehrhardt, William Walch and William Becker. Mrs. R. L. Morse was soloist. She was accompanied by Mrs. Robert Roehlk.
